CACC PROGRAMS
CACC is a private outpatient physical therapy clinic specializing in orthopedic rehabilitation, work injuries, pre and post surgical rehabilitation, motor vehicle accident injuries, sports medicine, and hand rehabilitation. In order to provide full service care, CACC has developed many specialized programs. Please take a look into some of the following:
Manual Therapy-
Manual Therapy is a very powerful tool in a rehabilitation process. Manual therapy is performed with the therapists' hands, not with any machines.
Manual therapy includes:
- Mobilization- Mobilization uses slow, measured movements to twist, pull or push bones and joints into position. Mobilization can help loosen tight tissues around a joint and help with flexibility and alignment.
- Manipulation- Manipulation uses rapid, forceful movements to position the bones and joints. Manipulation is a more aggressive treatment.
- Massage- Massage applies pressure to the soft tissues of the body, the muscles. Massage can help relax muscles, improve circulation and ease pain in the soft tissues.
Throughout your lifetime you may learn, or are forced by injury or stress into, unnatural ways of moving or holding your body. This unnatural movement or posture changes the natural alignment of bones, which in turn causes discomfort and may contribute to health problems. By utilizing Manual therapy you are working toward the goals of relaxation, less pain, and more flexibility.

Work Conditioning/ Injury Programs-
Our Work Conditioning program focuses on a goal orientated treatment plan to prepare the individuals injured on the job for a successful return to the workplace. We work closely with employers and employees in order to return the injured employee to their jobs as soon as possible. To help these individuals achieve that goal, our program includes:
- Job specific body mechanics training
- Work station ergonomic evaluations
- One-on-one education with a therapist to go over treatment goals, concerns and track progress as the conditioning progresses
- One-on-one supervision and education with the employee regarding treatment goals, exertion levels and progress
**Each employee is given an individualized exercise program to get them physically better than his or her pre-injury status. Each injured worker has different physical job requirements and needs an individual evaluation to plan a program that is beneficial and specific to the worker.
Each injured worker is different and requires an individual evaluation to plan a program that is beneficial to the worker.

Pre and Post Surgical Rehabilitation-
CACC offers a rehabilitation program for patients who are anticipating surgery by offering care before and after surgery. Before surgery a patient can expect to be educated by a therapist about all aspects of the upcoming surgery including exercises (both pre- and post-op), how to reduce pain and swelling, and realistic goals of physical therapy. Therapists maintain close communication with the referring physician in order to fully understand what surgery the patient is undergoing and to prepare an individual treatment plan.
Benefits of physical therapy pre- and post-operative are:
- Therapy can help with pain management
- Can reduce swelling before and after surgery
- Increase your mobility
- Therapy can reduce your recovery time after surgery
- Therapy can improve comfort levels
Therapists maintain communication before and after surgery with the referring physician and make any modifications to the treatment plan based on the individual patient’s unique circumstances.

Hand Therapy-
Is pain in your hands, wrists or elbows preventing you from enjoying normal daily activities, or slowing your work? Injuries can result from arthritis, overuse (CTS), tendonitis (Tennis elbow), and trauma that may require surgery. It may not be necessary to put up with the pain. Treatment and expert guidance are used in order to regain your range of motion, strength and decrease your pain.
Each patient's goals to return to specified tasks are addressed through a series of treatments that may include soft tissue massage, joint mobilization, splinting, modalities and exercise.
CACC's program includes:
- Access to the most up-to-date rehabilitation equipment including custom splinting, advanced testing and training, and supportive devices
- Extensive patient education designed to develop long-term relief and use
- Manual therapy to facilitate movement

Pool Therapy-
Aquatic therapy is an alternative or adjunct to traditional physical therapy. Did you know that if you exercise in chest depth water you are only under 10% of your body weight stress? This helps those individuals who cannot tolerate weight bearing stresses with traditional exercise or for those that are under post-injury or surgical weight bearing restrictions. The beauty of aquatics is that the water can give you both resistance and buoyancy. Aquatics therapy is not only good for initial therapy, but also for high level performance training.
At CACC we provide the following for our aquatic program:
- A one on one initial evaluation by a licensed physical therapist
- An individualized treatment program developed and directed by a licensed physical therapist that is tailored to the patient's needs and goals
- The use of aquatic rehabilitation and exercise equipment
- A fun and professional aquatic treatment environment
CACC's aquatic program is beneficial for treatment of the following conditions:
- Limited weight bearing
- Post-surgical
- Arthritis
- Fibromyalgia
- Failed traditional therapy
- Osteoporosis
- Tendonitis and Bursitis
- Chronic Pain
- Swelling/edema
- Back Pain
- Obesity

Massage Therapy has also been shown to :
- Relieve muscular aches and pains
- Reduce scar tissue restrictions
- Calm the central nervous system
- Increase circulation
- Lower blood pressure
- Relieve stress
- Enhance sleep
- Circulate the lymphatic system, pumping out harmful toxins like lactic acid
- Help you relax and feel better about yourself
At CACC, the Physical Therapists and Massage Therapists coordinate treatment for maximum recovery of the injured individual. CACC massage therapists are skilled at the following massage techniques:
- Deep tissue
- Sports
- Reflexology and relaxation
- Swedish
- Injury management
- Pregnancy
- Shiatsu
- Trigger point
Please call the location most convenient to you to inquire about massage services.
Orthotics-
Heel pain or plantar fasciitis is one of the most common problems limiting activities on our feet. Unfortunately, this is a problem that does not usually go away without help.
Your feet are the base of support for your entire body. Orthotics are one of the most valuable tools used to correct problems in the feet. Orthotics are inserts placed in your shoes to support your feet. Not only can orthotics help with plantar fasciitis, but assist in recovery from knee, hip and low back pain.
Our orthotics program includes a full biomechanical assessment of the legs, gait pattern and foot problems. A custom Orthotic is designed to correct the foot dysfunction and allow for normal alignment of the lower body.

Lymphedema- Chronic Swelling
Lymphedema is a condition that affects 3 million Americans. Fifty to seventy percent of breast surgery patients develop lymphedema. Lymphedema can occur after an infection, after a traumatic injury, after cancer treatment, or after a surgery. If allowed to continue untreated, lymphedema can worsen, resulting in vessels and surrounding tissue becoming harder and less elastic. It is not reversed by elevation or exercise alone. Early diagnosis and treatment offers the best chance for reversing and controlling the condition.
Lymphedema occurs when lymphatic fluid accumulates in the arms, legs or abdomen. It is noticed by unusual or persistent swelling in a limb or limbs, and/or a feeling of "pins and needles" or "heaviness" in the affected area.
Treatment of lymphedema can help one become more active, safe, and significantly improve the appearance of the affected limb. Treatment also helps each patient understand how to self-manage their symptoms at home as well as how to avoid other problems such as infection.
Lymphedema patients are being treated at our Park Meadows Physical Therapy (PMPT) clinic in Highlands Ranch. At PMPT each patient is evaluated by a physical therapist and an RN specializing in lymphedema. Gwen Tholkes is the RN treating lymphedema patients at PMPT. For the past 15 years, she has specialized in the education and treatment of lymphedema patients. Treatment may involve lymphedema drainage massage, compression garments and individual exercise and education in self-care. Other components of care include sequential pumping, precautions and prevention of recurrence. The program runs for 6 to 12 visits over several months- to ensure successful progress with a home program.
